She is a proud graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (Wits); holding a BSc in Mathematical Sciences and a BSc Honours degree in Actuarial Science – having completed a research paper titled “Funding options for a South African National Health Insurance System.” While at Wits University, S’onqoba was invited to become a lifetime member of the Golden Key International Honour Society that recognises the top 15% of academic achievers in universities in South Africa and the rest of the world.
S’onqoba served as the founding Operations Director of a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) that focuses on Youth Development in the Soweto and Alexandra areas. She also worked as the Chief Operations Officer of a black-owned start-up Investment Holdings company called Lante Investment Holdings; co-ordinating the operations and strategic direction of the company, while also being the editor of the company’s inaugural magazine. S’onqoba was an independent member of the South African Market Research Association until October 2015. She is also a World Economic Forum Global Shaper since 2014, served as the Johannesburg Hub Deputy Curator in 2015/16 and takes over as the Hub Curator in July.
In her career in Corporate South Africa, she progressed from an Actuarial Analyst role on the First National Bank (FNB) Graduate Programme to Brand Insights Manager for FNB Brand Management, while being actively involved in the company’s Graduate Recruitment and Girl Child empowerment initiatives. S’onqoba then worked as the Executive Assistant to the FirstRand Limited Group CEO, Mr. Sizwe Nxasana between 2013 and 2015. In this role she provided daily strategic support to the Group CEO’s office. In addition to this role, she worked as the Head of the FNB Innovators Programme which facilitates innovation in one of the most innovative banks in the world, until 2015. In 2016 she moved into the start-up world, specifically in the private education space and heads up Special Projects and Operations for the Sifiso Learning Group.
