On Africa in Business, a programme on the Africa News Channel hosted by Thami Ngubeni, Dr Sizwe Nxasana, co-founder and CEO of Sifiso Learning Group, speaks about his transformative vision for education in South Africa and beyond.

With a career that began in corporate South Africa, Dr Nxasana has spent the last decade focused on one of the most pressing challenges on the continent: delivering relevant, future-ready education. In this interview, he shares the thinking behind Sifiso Learning Group’s mission to create an African-centred, innovative education ecosystem that responds to real societal needs.

A central focus of the conversation is his recently completed doctoral research. In May 2025, Dr Nxasana successfully defended his thesis at Aalborg University in Denmark, the world’s leading institute for Project-Based Learning (PBL). Titled Navigating Teacher Learning in a Context of Implementing Project-Based Learning in South African K12 Education, the research explores how to better support teachers in implementing PBL effectively within our local context.

The interview highlights how this academic work aligns with the practical work done by the Sifiso Learning Group across its institutions, products and programmes – placing teacher development, Afrocentric content and innovative pedagogy at the centre of change.
